| Azad's Master stroke | | PDP gets lion's share from reorganisation of districts | | | Srinagar, July 7 :- The PDP, which shares power with the Congress, has taken a major share from the cake which the Chief Minister offered to the people by way of creating eight new districts, four in the Jammu region and four in the Kashmir valley.
Judged on the performance of the PDP in 2002 Assembly elections in Anantnag and Pulwama districts ,out of 16 seats the PDP had won 10 against two by the congress and two by the NC,the party led by Ms Mehbooba Mufti has succeeded in getting a lion's share as two more districts in Anantnag and Pulwama belt.
One does believe that the PDP had put forth the demand for a major share in the new district creation work. The reason is that had not the congress leadership succumbed to the pressure exerted by the PDP it would not have okayed the creation of two districts, one of Kulgam and the other being Shopian. The distance between Shopian and Kulgam is about 30 kms. And now the south kashmir belt, considered to be the main base of the PDP, has now four districts against three in Baramulla and Kupwara districts.

| MEN & MATTERS | | Heard of 'breast ironing' ? | | | B L KAK
Pleasing to human eye is a female's budding breasts. Heated stones have nothing to do with girls' bosoms. Yet, these two things you can come across in a country called Cameroon. Situated between West and Central Africa, Cameroon, originally part of the German colony in West Africa, became a republic in 1960.
In 1984, the country was renamed the Republic of Cameroon. It is a free country. Sadly, young girls in Cameroon have tough times to face. A media report put out from Yaounde, capital of Cameroon, just the other day is awe-inspiring. It makes a pointed reference to 'ironing' of budding breasts of females.
Bone-chilling instance cited by the report: Worried that he...

NEW DELHI, July 7: The Congress-led coalition government at the Centre has no plans to create a separate ministry for Muslim minority welfare. Even as the UPA government has taken note of a variety of difficulties the minority comunity is confronted with, the demand for a separate ministry for the Muslims is not as simple as it is for its votaries.
The present government, a senior Ministerial source told EARLY TIMES, would not like to stir a host of enemies by accepting the demand. In plain language, in the given situation, the question of creating a separate ministry for the minority comunity "just does not arise", the source said.
The demand for a separate min...

NEW DELHI, Jult 7: Congress party's 'Rajmata' and her parliamentarian son, Rahul Gandhi, have planned to address a series of pre-poll rallies in election-bound Uttar Pradesh. Clearly, Sonia Gandhi's strategy is to add more importance--strictly in politcal sense-- to her son.
The mother and son duo, seen as the best bet for Congress, will address at least eight rallies in different parts of the all-important State of Utar Pradesh (UP) in September.
While Rahul has shared the dais with his mother in the past, this will be the first time that he will address public rallies in her presence. The idea is to put the best foot forward, galvanise the party before th...

| | | | Indian border isn't far from Yadung | | China's railway from Lhasa to India's Kolkata! | | | From B L KAK
NEW DELHI, July 7: By far the most signifcant revelation: China plan to extend its railway network to India's east coast. This will be from Tibet to a newly opened border point in India's northeast. And finally link it to India's east coast.
Chinese Ambassador to India, Sun Yuxi's revelation came a day after China and India reopened Nathu-La pass, once part of the Silk Road. “Once trade starts, people will demand better transportation facilities,” Sun said in a media interview in Gangtok, capital of Sikkim.
Beijing had decided to first extend the railway to Lhasa, inaugurated last week, to the Tibetan city of Shigatse and then to Yadung, Sun said. “From Yadung,...
