SRINAGAR, Sept 23: The Jammu and Kashmir Government headed by Omar Abdullah has a habit of shying away from responsibilities and lying before the common masses whenever they are caught in a catch 22 situation. Same has happened with respect to recent devastating flood that hit the state very badly.
The Chief Minister has in the recent past on more than one occasion said that the flood was so devastating that no Government would have managed the things in a better manner. He made this statement only to escape from the public criticism since his Government failed to cope up with the situation.
The State Government paid no heed whatsoever to the weather warning or advisory issued by the Srinagar centre of Meteorological department. The department had asked the State Government to take all the necessary steps since it had predicted that heavy rains are going to lash the entire state. It had also said that there is likelihood of flashfloods in different parts of the state.

NEW DELHI, Sept 23: The Election Commission is not in a haste to hold elections in the flood ravaged Jammu and Kashmir. The EC will take final decision after things settle down to normalcy.
According to sources, the Centre has been briefed about the extent of damage and the possible time required to get the things back to the normalcy. The EC has also been briefed about the challenges of the administration in couping with building firstly infrastructure.
The elections in the state are scheduled by the end of the November and new Government is to be formed in the first week of the January. However, the possibility of the elections holding on schedule is unlikely.

SRINAGAR, Sept 23: Two posh colonies of Srinagar city, Jawahar Nagar and Rajbagh in civil lines are still submerged as water has got trapped in these areas and is refusing to come out. Government has installed pumps to drain out the stagnated water from these areas and through pipes it's being transferred into a nearby flood channel.
Worried residents of these areas for the past 16 days have been sitting on the bund waiting for water levels to recede so that they can reach their homes and see whether their residences are there or water has washed them away.
