Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 8: The government of Jammu and Kashmir is facing shortage of nearly one dozen Indian Police Service (IPS) officers as several key posts in the police department are lying either vacant or managed by the junior police officers.
As per the details available with Early Times 77 IPS officers among which around 9 IPS officers out of 18 in the rank of DGP & ADGP are presently on central deputation while another 9 IPS officer in the rank of IGP out of 23 IPS and similarly 7 other IPS in the rank of DIG and SSP are also on central deputation or on deputation to home state and thus out of 77 IPS officers of J&K carder, 25 are on deputation which is around 1/3rd of the total strength of the IPS in state of Jammu and Kashmir.
Of three DIG rank IPS, two were on central deputation while the post of DIG for Udhampur- Reasi and Doda-Kishtwar-Ramban range are laying vacant after Basant Kumar Rath was posted as IGP traffic on 8-2-2018 and only Virdhi Kumar, 2003 batch IPS Kumar is in rank of DIG holding the charge of CKR range while all other range including Jammu-Kathua-Samba, Rajouri-Poonch, South Kashmir and North Kashmir are being hold by the SSP Rank IPS Officers.
The sources said that due to the issue of cadarization of Kashmir Police Service (KPS) the induction of several KPS officers of 1999 and 2001 batch has stuck midway and even government of Jammu and Kashmir fails to address the issue as a result of which the shortage of IPS officers continue to hit the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
The sources said that keeping in view of shortage of IPS officers, the government is mulling an option to post senior IPS officers in the rank of SSP as DIG's added that keeping in view of the government plan, the mass scale transfer of some IPS officers along with some KPS officers is on card to pay way for posting of some SSPs against the post of DIG's or equilant which necessitate the major reshuffle in the police administration possibly during the upcoming cabinet meeting schedule to be held on 12th of April 2018 at civil secretariat Jammu under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti.
The government is also mulling to call back some IPS officers who are on deputation since last more than 10 years so that shortage of IPS officers could be somehow addressed.
