Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 8: Despite Jammu and Kashmir Police establishing the involvement of Lashkar-e-Toiba militants in the abduction and killing of two Hajin youth, the banned militant outfit is trying to project itself as the "biggest sympathizer" of Kashmiris.
"LeT militants abducted Manzoor Ahmed Bhat and his father, Abdul Gaffar, after barging into their house and assaulting their family members," police had said.
Gaffar managed to escape from their clutches but was shot by the militants. He is undergoing treatment in a hospital. "The body of Manzoor Ahmed Bhat, who was abducted by the LeT militants on the intervening night of April 4 and 5, was found on the outskirts of Hajin on Friday," the police spokesperson had said.
Earlier a man was abducted by militants and his family members were severely beaten and injured by them. "Last week four militants affiliated with the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) barged into Farooq Ahmed Parray's house in Hajin area and started firing indiscriminately," police said. They abducted Parray and later his body was recovered from the outskirts of his native village. As the killings triggered outrage, the LeT issued a statement claiming that it's not involved in the killings.
A police official told Early Times that it's not for the first time that militants have killed civilians. "They have been doing it for the past 27-years. First they kill people and then condemn it," he said.
The police official said that when armed insurgency broke out in Kashmir in 1990 militants used to tie grenades to the bodies of the people after labeling them as informers and used to blow them off. "Many girls who refused the proposals of the militants were labeled as mukhbirs and killed by these gunmen," he said.
The official said that after carrying out such barbaric killings, militants have always tried to put the blame on security agencies by shedding crocodile tears and issuing false statements. "Before killing both these Hajin men the LeT militants had threatened them. Entire village knows about it. They (militants) first declared them as mukhbirs and then slaughtered them," he said, adding that entire village knows that who killed both these men.
A source said that these killings have triggered fear and panic in Hajin and adjoining areas as a few sympathizers of militants believe that they could meet the same fate if militants get killed in the shelters which are provided by these sympathizers. "Lashkar-e-Toiba has issued a statement to reassure its sympathizers that they need not worry," the source said, adding that by carrying out these killings the LeT militants have established their writ in the area and driven home a point that no one should dare to oppose their activities.
