Early Times Report
Vijaypur, July 4: The failure of the State Government to rehabilitate the families dwelling on the land identified for much needed All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) has impeded work on the project due to which the realization of the hospital on ground is appearing a far-fetched dream for Jammuites.
Although it has been three years since the AIIMS was sanctioned to the State and a land measuring 1954 kanals was identified at village Rakhbrotiyan of district Samba but the government has failed to get the land vacated from the occupants. "The work of boundary wall and gate was started on June 27, 2108 under the presence of the security force without rehabilitating the families which are living there. Sources told Early Times that families living on this land which majority comprising of Gujjar community were not happy with the Government's proposal of their rehabilitation and termed it injustice to them. "The compensation given to us is not sufficient, justified" they said.
The Government allotted 450 kanals of the land for rehabilitation of 204 families while the fact is that there are over 300 families which are living on this land. We migrated from border in 1999 and were settled at this place but now government is going to construct AIIMS here on this place but without proper rehabilitation of the families," said Lal Hussain, Shah Ali, Shami Din, members of families living on the land. They further said that Government had sanctioned Rs 4.63 Cr for compensation to the families which is not adequate and till date only two families have been rehabilitated while the rest of the families are still waiting their rehabilitation.
Besides, the work on approach road to AIIMS was started on 7-09-2017 by the then Minister Nayeem Akhtar and work was scheduled to be completed in March 2018 but till date work not been completed, they said.
