Sr Cong leaders 'brokering' unity between Azad, Soz....! | Reshuffle to see 'important' changes to refurbish party image | | Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 15: In a move that can bring some peace and order in the faction ridden State unit of Congress and refurbish the image of the party beleaguered on the front of corruption, some senior most leaders from New Delhi are on a 'mission' to broker unity and unanimity between the stalwarts Ghulam Nabi Azad and Prof Saif-u-Din Soz so that both the leaders could sit together and settle the pending issue of getting three Cabinet berths to party by effecting the measures with consensus. The senior leaders considered to be staunch loyalists are also convening a meeting during which the two leaders could sit together and take some decisions 'amicably,' in the larger interests of the party. Reliable sources said that some meaningful leaders of the party have been given instructions and entrusted with the responsibility of settling matters in J&K Congress, retrieving the image of the party as people oriented and concerned with welfare of the masses and relieving it from some Ministers with whom the tag of corrupt and charges of corruption have become glaring. Sources said since this would mean effecting huge changes in the present composition of Congress Ministers, the two stalwarts Azad and Prof Soz would be desired to do so by showing door to few such Ministers and bringing on board some new faces, whose image and reputation is clean. Sources said the two leaders who have so far distanced themselves on this issue as a result of which Cabinet reshuffle and expansion is being delayed, have been sought to take this as last call and take requisite steps that would serve the twin purpose of settling reshuffle as also help Congress to rid of the Ministers against whom the cases of corruption have come to fore either through cases in courts or in the Accountability Commission and even those against whom the charges have surfaced in their respective Ministries over the last three years. Sources said in dropping such Ministers, the vacancies so created could be filled by some seasoned leaders with clean image who are not at present members of either House but could be accommodated later as a mandatory step in the Upper House. The probable names as fresh incumbents in the State Cabinet would however be decided mutually by the two leaders for whom attempts of 'unity and reconciliation' are afoot, sources added. In yet another significant development related to the impending reshuffle, the Congress High Command is also contemplating to take on board one of the two independent allies in place of the incumbent one, in order to make it an arrangement on the rotational basis and give opportunity to both who are giving support to coalition. |
