Some State BJP leaders opposed to re-entry move of 7 expelled MLAs | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 15: Though the seven estranged BJP MLAs are willing to their re-entry in the party, some State leaders enjoying a very good clout at national level are a stumbling block in the process. According to sources the BJP leadership at Centre was also willing for re-entry of seven expelled members into the party fold but some State leaders have opposed the move and compelled the Central leadership to change the decision. It may be recalled that leader of seven expelled MLAs of the BJP Prof Chaman Lal Gupta has made it clear that there was no question in shifting loyalties and they continue to be BJP MLAs. However, the same is not acceptable to party leadership in the State which is deadly opposed to their re-entry in the party. Sources said that some of the State leaders who were brain behind the expulsion of seven MLAs for cross voting episode of April 13, 2010 in the election of MLCs are unwilling to their re-entry in the party fold. These leaders have apprised the High Command of their decision saying bringing the seven expelled MLAs back will have a serious public reaction and it will also generate lot of public anger against the Party. Sources said these State leaders who have made the BJP a personal property are unwilling that anyone else than them should have any sway in the party. They are willing for vertical split of the party than to support the unification move mooted by some senior leaders at New Delhi. Sources said the BJP High Command which expelled the seven MLAs is fully aware of the damage which the party will suffer at the hustings and keeping this in mind some of the senior leaders at New Delhi have mooted the idea of their re-entry in the party sources added. Sources said, however, some Central leaders having proximity with Prof Chaman Lal Gupta have not given the idea and they were seriously persuading the High Command of bringing the expelled MLAs into Party fold. They are trying to convince and motivate the High Command to give the rigid stance on the issue and not to ear the local leadership as their opposition to re-entry of seven MLAs will not only lead to vertical split of party in the State but give a direct benefit to Congress and NC, sources said. This is the reason that expelled MLAs have also adopted a soft stand as they also favour a truce knowing fully that the split in the BJP will be neither in favour of organization nor their group, sources added. |
