Chambers falls in CM's lap | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 17: Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which assumes the role of protecting rights of the businessperson is strangely and surprisingly silent on the remarks of the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for not opposing Foreign Direct Investment in the State. J&K is probably one of the few States who had agreed to welcome FDI in a very contentious and most important sector on which lives of crores of people from middle class trader to poor farmers depend. The Government decision may not have an immediate effect and businessmen wouldn't be hurt but in the longer run it's definitely going to be the case. Multi-National Companies having deep pocket, enabling them to bear even losses for some losses, wouldn't mind it for their long term benefits. It's the trick they have deployed in other parts of the world which had ultimately rendered businessmen and traders out of job. CM Omar Abdullah is not in line with socialistic thinking and on the contrary loves flashy things which he can easily get in more open market. He has the resources and panache for it. But Chamber, which is up on arms even at the slightest thing it assumes will hurt its business should have thoroughly studied its implication and should have categorically and strongly opposed it. It, however, it seems , the Chamber team is sitting on the lap of CM and is virtually taking dictation from him. Omar may not have much contact with the ordinary kirayana wallah, but it is core constituency of the Chamber and should have protected its interests . MNC will not only first take away large chunk of land, but would directly get products from farmers and other producers and then sell them at their discretion. Thus leaving lakhs of people who are involved in intermediary jobs in this process The world over the experience has shown that given full control of market and economy to MNCs with super deep pocket is not in the interest of any nation more so a developing and socialistic State like India. In J&K the problem is more profound as it's a land-locked State where trading is only profitable business. The Government is hell bent on taking out even this option but sadly the Chamber is playing into the hands of the Government doing much dis-service to itself and lakhs of traders. |
