Police custody of Mehraj-ud-Din extended
Searches on in Nepal; wife, aides being questioned

kishtwar, Sept 17: Chief Judicial Magistrate Kishtwar today extended the remand of Mehraj-ud-Din alleged ISI operative by 6 days. Team of Kishtwar police led by SHO Chatroo Farooq Ahmed Khateeb produced Mehraj-ud-Din at around 2.30 PM in a private vehicle, with his face covered to keep the accused away from media.
After producing the accused in the court of CJM Kishtwar, Prosecuting Officer Mansoor Ahmed demanded extension of police custody of the accused Mehraj-ud-Din. CJM Kishtwar after hearing Prosecuting Officer extended the remand of the accused by 6 days following which police officials whisked him out of court premises.
Earlier, Kishtwar police brought the accused at District Hospital Kishtwar for medical checkup and after seeing the media persons waiting outside, police urged the doctors to examine Mehraj-ud-Din inside the police vehicle. After examining him, doctors of District Hospital Kishtwar found him medically fit.
Meanwhile, sources divulged that Nepal police have conducted raids at several places in Kathmandu and its adjoining areas and reportedly also detained few close friends of Mehraj-ud-Din for questioning. The sources said that Nepal police is likely to register FIR against Mehraj-ud-Din for staying in Nepal on fake passport beside his alleged involvement in terror activities against India. Nepal police has also questioned Seema Ghaur Nepali wife of Mehraj-ud-Din, the details of the questioning of Mehraj-ud-Din's wife by Nepal police is yet to be shared with Indian counterpart. The sources said that progress in ongoing interrogation of Mehraj-ud-Din was slowed down today due to preoccupancy of senior officials of Kishtwar police in keeping an eye on development related to strike call given by the members of Muslim community as a mark of protest against controversial film of Prophet Mohammad (SAW).
It is worthwhile to mention here that Mehraj-ud-Din Dand alias Javed during his question in last one week has spilled beans about his long relationship with underworld Don Dawood Ibrahim, his brother Anees Ibrahim, United Jehad Council chief Syed Sallah-u-Din and top commanders of ISI. He also informed the Kishtwar police about the role of Pakistani diplomat Arshad Cheema in infamous 1999 Kandhar hijacking of IC-814, beside also revealed about the plan of Pakistani spy agencies ISI to target 202 Nepal SAARC summit. The plan of targeting 2002 SAARC summit in Nepal failed after Arshad Cheema got expose with the recovery of RDX from his possession by Nepal police. Cheema was later expelled by the Nepalese Government.
