Army initiates concept of bringing AMUL to J&K | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 18: Army 's success in not just in chasing away terrorists and guarding borders but is also credited with the Milk revolution in the State. It was because of its efforts that AMUL decided to put up its plants in Jammu and Srinagar which has not only empowered people in this trade but has helped in people getting quality milk. In an article former GoC of the Srinagar based 15 Corps Lt General (retd) VG Patankar writes how over having a morning tea he thought about helping people in starting a milk cooperative. It was concept pioneered by late VG Kurien- called India's Milk man- and Army thought of having his knowledge and expertise in making it success. The General writes that how approached the Man who more than willingly decided to help in his endevaour. The concept was shared by with the then chief minister Mufit Mohammad Sayeed who not only appreciated it but made it point to take the General with him to the office of Kurien in Gujarat and got his consent in starting AMUL's operation in J&K. AMUL started first unit at Cheshma-e-Shahi in Srinagar and latter in Jammu. So actually the success of bring of AMUL goes to Army but Mufti Sayeed should also be credited in approving the concept of Army, which had always been painted in black in Kashmir. This bold but simple step has changed the lives of Gujjars and other people involved in this trade in a big way. It also shows that how Army is sensitive to the needs and aspirations of the people and also in taking steps to make their lives much better Operation Sadhbahvana is another concept of the Army which has not only helped in building infrastructure and in providing quality education to the people in remote areas but has helped people of these places to see the world outside their boundaries. These simples steps have changed the perception of the people about India and also about Army. The present government headed by chief minister has been consistently putting Army in bad light for its tough stand on Armed Forces Special Forces Act but little does his government realizes that this very Army with its simple Act has brought much to the people than revocation of any Act would do. |
