Hazare took a right step by discarding controversial Kejriwal & Co | Supporters Of Kashmiri Separatists | | Rustam JAMMU, Sept 21: Social activist Anna Hazare, who has given a new orientation to the movement against corruption, on Wednesday took a great step by rejecting the suggestion that he should bless the ambitious Arvind Kejriwal and his associates like Prashant Bhushan who want to float a political party to fulfill their political ambitions. Hazare not only rejected outrightly this suggestion, but also said that he had nothing to do with what Kejriwal wanted to do and that he would continue his campaign against corruption as a non-political person. "Politics is not service. It is all about selfishness. I have always stated that I don't want to form a political party and contest elections," he said while admitting that there was a rift between him and Kejriwal & Co. Anna plainly told Kejriwal that he would want him and his associates not to use his name and photo during the political campaign they have been planning to launch. What he said could be construed as a great snub to Kejriwal and others, including Prashant Bhushan, Sanjay Singh, Manishh Sishodia, Kumar Biswas, Sazia Ilmi, to mention only a few. Earlier, Kiran Bedi and Santosh Hegde, two very prominent members of the erstwhile Team Anna, had dissociated themselves from Kejriwal, saying that they did not approve the idea of the Team Anna jumping into the country's dirty and corrupt political arena and that they wanted to fight against the evil of corruption through a non-political movement. They are with Anna Hazare. Hazare's is a correct decision. One just cannot fight the menace of corruption by becoming part of the system which is not just corrupt but also rotten and undemocratic. One will become corrupt the moment one joins the system. It's a very sad and negative reflection on the Indian political system, but it is a fact that the corrupt elements have established their stranglehold over the system. Only those who have the moral authority can take on and defeat the corrupt. There is no doubt that Anna would play an important role in this regard. The task is very difficult, but the objective is achievable. The country wants a very strong social movement against the corrupt system and Anna is capable of delivering on this front. The dissociation of Anna from Kejriwal & Co is one part of the story, which is very important for the nation, already up in arms against the system, as well as against the Congress and the Congress-led Central Government. What happened across the country yesterday was an indication of the direction things are moving; there was a complete shutdown and the two targets were the Congress and the Central Government. What is the other part of the story? The other part of the story is equally important. Had Anna Hazare not abandoned Kejriwal & Co or had he decided to continue to work with them, things would have become somewhat difficult in Jammu and Kashmir in the coming days. His association with Kejriwal and his close associates would have accorded legitimacy to the dangerous politics the likes of Prashant Bhushan and Sazia Ilmi have been playing. It needs to be underlined that Bhushan and Ilmi are supporters of Kashmiri separatists. Bhushan is more radical, as compared to Ilmi. He has umpteen times in the past openly advocated independence for Kashmir. He was recently thrashed by some nationalists in his office chamber at New Delhi. He was beaten up by a group of young men. Ilmi, on the other hand, is a votary of a dispensation for Kashmir that is not really within the Indian political and Constitutional framework. In Jammu, last year, she opposed the protagonists of State's full integration into India. The then chief interlocutor Dileep Padgaonkar had brought her from Delhi to Jammu so that she could air her views on Jammu and Kashmir. Anna has greatly helped the nation by snapping his ties with those in the erstwhile Team Anna who have strengthened separatist and communal forces in their own way. |
