Trouble shooting move: Govt opens channels of negotiations with JCC | Employees' call for indefinite stir from Oct 1 | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 26: In order to avoid any trouble from employees in the wake of their renewed threat of launching fresh stir if their demands were not met or considered seriously by the end of this month, the Government has opened channels of negotiations at various levels with the leaders of Joint Consultative Committee , an amalgam of various employees bodies, which has been spearheading the agitation for over two years now. In what can be seen as attempt to keep them engaged and enveloped in air of optimism, the Government today started this exercise at the level of administration by informally inviting three senior leaders of JCC to 'assure' them of something positive 'offing'. Sources said that three representatives of JCC Khursheed Alam, Qayoom Wani and Gafoor Dar were invited by the GAD Commissioner Secretary Sheikh Mushtaq in the Secretariat where they have been assured that NC led Government was serious about their pending issues and the commitments made in the agreement with the Government over key demands . The GAD Commissioner discussed all issues with them threadbare and said the Government has taken cognizance of the unrest among the employees on account of which call for fresh strike has been given from October 1 and accordingly it was taking steps to work out a strategy so that the issues and demands could be looked into afresh in the present economic and financial conditions of the State, sources said. Even though no date has been given as yet, sources said that the JCC has been assured that a formal meeting with the Government would be convened any day soon before October 1 wherein thy could express the reason that has forced the JCC to announce new schedule of indefinite agitation. The JCC leaders have been conveyed that the Finance Minister AR Rather who has been dealing with the issue of employees in the present coalition regime is arriving tomorrow from abroad and in next couple of days formal negations would be held to sort out all issues . The JCC representatives have also been conveyed that the Government has not been able to arrange formal negotiations on account of its pre-occupation with the visit of country's President Pranab Mukherjee who is scheduled to stay in the summer capital for three days. However, sources within the Government at higher level said even though the Government by showing keenness in starting negotiations with the employees representatives, it was only to keep them engaged and avoid any fresh trouble particularly at a time when the autumn session of Assembly is beginning from Oct 1. It is pertinent to mention here that the deadline for the implementation of Government-Joint Consultative Committee (JCC) agreement is nearing completion which is why JCC leaders have threatened to go on an indefinite strike from next month. It, however, remains to be seen that how the JCC leaders would respond to this fresh trouble shooting move from the Government. |
