| Is J-K Police biased towards certain political parties? | | Cops facilitated burning of former Haryana CM's effigy outside Congress office | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 18: Whether Police has political affinity or not certainly majority of sane minds may say no nut when it comes to Jammu and Kashmir Police it seems it has some inclination towards certain political heavyweights. At one time it shooed away the students and political activist to register protest against state government in recent past but when it come protest from Congress activist it facilitates burning of former Chief Minister of Haryana. If recalled from recent past when Jammu Kashmir Democratic Front (JKDF) desperately tried to take out protest rallies seeking early release of its three activist who jumped into the assembly well on October 8, in Kashmir. Before they could raise their voice against the government action the jawans of the state police under the supervision of senior police officer cane charged them and dispersed them. On three consecutive days they were shooed away and also they could not stage demonstrations to highlight the plight of unemployed youth. Not only JKDF activists but BJP workers and the state party leaders also suffered the wrath of the state police on many occasions in the recent days who were not allowed to stage protest demonstrations against the recent fuel price hike and cap on subsidized cylinders here in the winter capital. Similar fate was witnessed by the PDP and JKNPP, Shiv Sena ,Ram Sena, Shiv Sena Hindustan and other students bodies, employees associations who faced the music and were taken to task by the state police. Here it needs to mention that on all these occasions the state police dispersed agitators claiming that they had not taken prior permission to stage protest demonstration and assemblage over 4 people in areas where section 144 has been imposed is illegal. And JK Police claimed its dutifulness and commitment to prevent any unlawful assembly of protestors. But on Thursday the same police officers and jawans deployed outside the office of the Congress party near Shaheedi Chowk facilitated burning of effigy of former Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala without opening cane charge on Congress workers steps away from the residence of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. The senior police officers present on the spot negotiated terms of protest demonstration under the full glare of media and remained in constant touch with their senior authorities on how to handle the situation. Here it needs to mention that the effigy burning of Ex Chief minister was done in a blink of eye but it infact was time consuming process as local media received a message from the congress office to assemble outside the office of the state party unit near Shaheedi chowk at 1.00 pm to cover the protest demonstration. And minutes before the demonstration a group of young boys shifted a huge life size effigy to Congress Office at Residency Road. Three to four senior police officers were already present on the spot but none bothered to ask the event managers about their game plan to stage protest demonstration. Around 1.00 pm when a handful of agitated Congressmen gathered outside the party office and made an attempt to take out the effigy out of the office building, the police officers stopped them however the Congress activists pleaded to allow them to hold a protest demonstration. As Congressmen persisted police to allow them to demonstrate the police officers on spot decided to allow them to burn the effigy on the foot steps of the party office. Congress workers burnt the effigy of the former Harayana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala who targeted the Congress icon Rahul Gandhi on a land deal recently. The dram went on infront of police officers who were deputed on spot. The entire staged managed protest demonstration left behind a trail of questions. |
