| No unanimity over election of new BJP State chief, Gadkari summons party leaders to Delhi | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 18: With no unanimity over the election of new State Party chief, a high level BJP delegation is leaving for Union Capital on November 2 to sort out the issue with national party president, Nitin Gadkari. According to party sources the team besides the election of Party State president will also take a final decision on the nomination of candidates for Parliamentary elections in the State. The BJP is facing crisis over the election of new State president as some senior leaders have become strong contenders for the post. The outgoing president Shamsher Singh Manhas who is to relinquish the office in December is one of the contenders for the post and he is pleading his case for the second term, sources said. Besides, MLA Nagrota Jugal Kishore Sharma who is having the backing of some RSS leaders is also another strong contender for the post, sources added. Sources said that senior vice president of the Party Chander Parkash Ganga, chief spokesperson and National Executive Member, Dr Jitendra Singh and former party president Dr Nirmal Singh and MLA Jammu East Ashok Khajuria have also thrown their ball in the court. However the High Command has kept its cards close to the chest and has not made any formal announcement in this regard. The infighting among the party leaders has annoyed the High Command which has summoned all the senior leaders to Union capital on October 21 to take a final decision in this regard, sources added. Sources said BJP is facing a stiff opposition even within the organisation for its failure in supporting the JKDF activists who took up the cause of Jammuites in State Assembly by forcibly entering into the Assembly gallery recently and shouted slogans against the Government. The failure of BJP leaders to support the issue in State Assembly has led to a lot of public resentment and people while voicing their concern have also taken the issue to Party High Command, sources added. Sources said the people while taking the serious exception to the issue have taken the Jammu based parties in general and BJP in particular to task for not supporting the cause of Jammu and protesting against the arrest of JKDF activists taken into custody by the Government who had raised the genuine issue of rising unemployment and growing discrimination with Jammu region. Sources said that this attitude of BJP leadership has made its position awkward and during its meeting with High Command the issue will likely figure as the pro-Jammu stand taken by JKDF will give an edge to the Party over other organizations claiming to fight for Jammu cause. |
