| Stray dogs kill 27 sheep meant for Qurbani, bite 36 others | | Dog scare in Kishtwar | | early times reports Kishtwar, Oct 24:- The stray dogs in Kishtwar District have unleashed a reign of terror particularly amongst school going children. In a fresh incident, stray dogs killed 27 sheep at Wasarkund Kishtwar and bit 36 others. All the animals were for sale on the eve of Eid-ul-Azha. As soon as the matter came to the notice, senior officers of District Administration, Police, Municipal Committee Kishtwar rushed to the spot and assessed the situation. After verification and report from veterinary doctors, the Tehsildar Kishtwar Indeerjeet Singh Parihar on behalf of District Administration ordered culling of all the infected animals to prevent any threat of rabies. He also order the Halqa Patwari Kishtwar Nisar Ahmed Butt to prepare the relief case of all the effected families so that the relief in accordance to the law could be distributed among the suffers. All the infected animals after culling were later buried at an isolated place to prevent spread of any kind of epidemic. MLA Kishtwar Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo also visited the spot and assured the effected families that he will extend all possible help for adequate compensation. Meanwhile people resented failure of administration in checking the growing population of dogs in Kishtwar District. The people said that several dogs roaming freely in Kishtwar are infected and demanded that all the infected dogs should be killed. Tehsildar Kishtwar however told that the killing of dogs is prohibited, however he assure that he will take up the matter with higher authorities regarding neutralizing of those dogs who suffered from rabies. He said that neutralizing of dogs infected with rabies virus can be done through proper assessment of the complaints and after following proper procedure which includes permission from concerned head of the District. It is worthwhile to mention that population of stray dogs in Kishtwar town and its adjoining areas is more than 10000. Security forces' camps, dumping places for waste, hospitals, areas outside hotels, Bus stand, schools are the common breeding place for these stray dogs. |
