| IT Official, clerk land in CBI net, record withheld | | | Sumit Sharma Jammu, Nov 1: Taking cognizance of a complaint the Department of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for the first time today arrested an Income Tax Officer alongwith his clerk for allegedly demanding bribe from a retired Army officer to clear refund in this winter capital of the State. Sources in central investigating agency CBI said that duo working with IT department was arrested for taking bribe from Lt Colonel (Retd) here today. According to sources the trap was laid on the complaint of Lt Col (Retd) Garish Chander Sexena of Talab Tillo who approached the CBI office after he went through the message of SP CBI published in some sections of media that people are shying away from filing complaints to CBI. "The complainant was demanding a cheque of Rs 2.5 lakh from IT Department, Railhead Complex Jammu as refund for which concerned officials were delaying the matter for the last 6 months. They have been identified as ITO Hans Raj and Pritam Sharma, a clerk with the IT department. "A trap was laid under the supervision of SP CBI Dr Armaandeep Singh and Radhey Shyam Dy SP, both accused persons were caught red handed with tainted money, sources said, adding CBI also seized few files from the IT office. "The team comprising Inspectors namely B.D Dandia, Deedar Singh, Kamal Sangra, Lalit Kumar, SI Harish and SI Udhey Gurjar. "The said raid concluded at around 8 pm," sources said The sleuths of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) branch Jammu held them from their office red handed when they were taking bribe of Rs 25000 from him. As per CBI sources, the cheque was to hand over to the complainant on the direction of Tribunal Court. The complainant filed complaint against Income Tax department after the IT sleuths raided his Talab Tillo based firm and slapped return of Rs 2.5 lakh to him. On his plea, the court gave direction to the IT department to hand over the money they took from the complainant along with the interest which amounts of around Rs 3 lakh. On the direction of the court the IT department from Mumbai issued refund cheque which was laying in the IT department's Jammu based office. To claim the refund the complainant had been going to IT department for the last six months. Both were arrested and put up in CBI lock up for the questioning. A senior officer of CBI when contacted said that the possibility of nexus of Charted Accountants, IT advocates, Sr IT Officers cannot be ruled out. He further said that the interrogation of the arrested IT employees was in progress to get further lead. |
