JAMMU, Nov 18: Beating the champion side of Vijay Club 2-0 in the decider, Young Hero lifted the pending 2010-11 Senior Division Football League trophy at GGM Science College ground, here today. The crowd puller game, played between the two top clubs of the city, fully entertained the healthy crowd of supporters, from both the sides, gathered at the ground. Leading by two goals in the first half of the play, Young Hero could not do well in the presence of strong defence raised by Vijay Club in rest of the game. On the other hand, Vijay Club, who played under protest (In view of opponent Young Hero played with over and above the number of players allowed from outside in a club team. A final decision shall be taken by the protest committee within a week's time), proved to be unlucky as two of the many goal attempts made by them missed the target narrowly. On both these occasions, the ball deflected either hitting the goal post or goal bar. In fact, Vijay Club was in need of just one goal against Young Hero to defend the title. However, the much needed goal eluded the side despite their upper hand in the second half of the play. Earlier, Sanjeev opened the account from Young Hero netting the ball in the very seventh minute. The lead was further improved by Rahul Sharma striking in the 32ndminute of the70-minute game. The game was so charged that three yellow cards were issued to Gulshan and Chandan of Young Hero and Dhananjay of Vijay Club. Today's league final was officiated by the penal of technical officials including Vijay Kumar, Saudagar Mattoo, Harneel Singh and Moon Stephen. In the valedictory function, Additional Director of Police, Armed and Law and Order, K Rajendra was chief guest, who gave away the championship trophy and other individual prizes. Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police IRP and DIG Armed, Johny William were as also R K Kohli, S M Gill, Kuldeep Singh and organizing secretary, Surinder Singh Bunty were among those present. |
