| Toned down Omar believes he is most vocal CM | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 18: Omar Abdullah, who had though publicly stated that he is now less outspoken, believes that he is most outspoken Chief Minister of the State but still didn't have any trouble with the Centre.
"I have been the most outspoken CM as far as J&K is concerned whether in regard to the AFSPA unlike one of my predecessors who only discovered it after he demitted office. I have been talking about it consistently as Chief Minister," said Omar Abdullah at a Hindustan Times leadership summit, without naming People’s Democratic Party.
Omar also said he had publicly told both the Prime Minister and Sonia Gandhi that J&K is a political problem but he didn't get reprimanded for his statement from the Centre.
Former Chief Minister and his late grandfather, whom Omar admires most, was also initially publically quite outspoken against India but he toned down considerably after the Indira-Sheikh accord which ensured him power.
Dr Farooq Abdullah had also in the past at the start of the terrorism in the State, had expressed sympathies with the separatists but later on assuming chair turned out to be most critical of not only Pakistan but also publicly chided separatists. He had even once suggested bombing of terrorists camps in Pakistan with the former Prime Minister AB Vajpayee when India conducted nuclear test at Pokhran.
In tune with the DNA of the Kashmiri based politicians Mufti Mohammad Sayeed though spearheaded a political campaign which was perceived as against the interests of the Centere, but did more than any one else to further the cause of the India in Kashmir when in Power.
Mufti being the CM almost had wiped out separatists from the political landscape of the Kashmir, who now because of the wrong policies of the State had once again starting taking shots.
Omar may have been outspoken in the initial years in the office, but he had become quite now. His demand for lifting of AFSPA had not got any ears from the Centre. He was put in the dock on the issue of security of panchs by none other than Rahul Gandhi and had to face a bit of embrassment when union home secretary dictated terms on law and order during 2010 summer unrest in the valley, which eroded the authority of the State.
Now coming to the end of his tenure, Omar had stopped shooting his mouth, had gone down on twitter and had said his remarks had often landed him in controversy and said he prefers to remain quite now.
Omar symbolizes the brand of Kashmir politics, which is vitriolic and rhetoric when on the other side of the chair but are more loyal than Kings when shown of the carrot of Chair. |
