| Fruit Mandi shops illegally converted into dhabas, tuck shops | | APMC officials connive with violators | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 25 : Blame it on the deep nexus existing between few unscrupulous elements and employees of the APMC Narwal Jammu, a number of shops, meant for undertaking only Fruit & Vegetable Wholesale business, are being used either for cooking/ selling food items or for selling General/ Karyana items and few unauthorized temporary structures have been erected for cooking/ selling food or being used as Tuck-Shops. The Narwal fruit and vegetable market, which was established in 1980 with the only purpose of wholesaling the fruits and vegetables, presently becomes an open market for the outsiders as they are now running their illegal "dhabas" by fearlessly violating the norms and acts. The APMC officials have also failed to retrieve government land encroached by few allottees whether at back yard or in front of their shops. It is pertinent to mention, here, that in order to facilitate and promote wholesale trade of fruit & vegetable at Narwal Mandi, the shops were allotted to the traders on comparatively cheaper rates. And a multipurpose shopping complex was also set up in W/Sale Fruit and Vegetable Market Narwal opposite Bahu Cold Store, wherein all types of trade activities for selling Food & Beverages, General/ Karyana, Pharmaceutical items, seeds, fertilizers etc. are permissible. Apart from this, the department also constructed a big spacious guest house (Kissan Ghar) for growers & traders within Narwal Mandi complex having lodging facility for more than fifty persons at a time and two dining halls with two separate kitchens for pure vegetarian and Kashmiri Wazwan items. The practice of converting/ sub-letting of shops, which are meant only for undertaking Fruit & Vegetable W/Sale business, to undertake other trades/ business activities, is totally illegal and causing a great hindrance in smooth functioning of the Market. Strangely, few prominent commission agents like, Vikas Sharma Shop No.34 Phase-II Fruit Complex, Antaryami Shop No.9 Vegetable Complex, P. C. Kapoor Shop No.14 Fruit Complex Phase-II, Parveen Gupta Shop No.142 Fruit Complex, Rakesh Kumar Shop No. 122 Fruit Complex Phase-II, Bilal Ahmed Pari Shop No.117 Phase-II Fruit Complex, Mohd. Assudullah Ganai Shop No.152 Phase-II Fruit Complex etc., reportedly, have also been found indulged in serious violations. Many dhabas are run by dubious characters from Kashmir valley who open them in the mandi during the peak season and after earning handsome amount go back Kashmir on which the department and committee is doing nothing except beating about the bush by publishing few notifications, every year, against them in news papers. When contacted chief executive APMC Narwal, Digvijay Gupta confessed that there are many illegal dhabas running in the mandi against whom he has given notification for their removal/closure in the newspapers also. "We cannot take any strict action against these illegal running dhabas and we cannot force them to leave as we are having no police or any other force" he added. |
