| NC's Ramzan takes law for ride in Handwara, gets Sarpanch booked under 307 | | Just for Transformer! | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 25: Ahead of the upcoming elections for Legislative Council, National Conference (NC) heavyweight Choudhary Mohammed Ramzan has begun flexing muscles in Handwara constituency of Kupwara district in North Kashmir. Sarpanches who owe allegiance to Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) accuse Ramzan of using government might to browbeat and harass them. They maintain that Ramzan has put almost the entire district machinery on remote control and does whatever he desires. Sarpanches of Handwara have accused him of interfering in the development work and facilitating his party workers forcing the police to lodge false and frivolous FIRs. Confirming this ex-Forest Minister and PDP leader Ghulam Mohiuddin Sofi while talking to Early Times said "The local MLA has been making knee deep efforts to force Sarpanches who have joined PDP to leave this party and join National Conference (NC). He has been harassing the Sarpanches in every possible way." He added that Ramzan hardly has fear of law. "Being an MLA, he should adopt democratic ways. I get complaints from my workers almost every day," added Sofi. Sofi said that a PDP Sarpanch namely Abdul Ahad Kashmiri belonging to Village Wadipora was detained by Police for seven days merely because he did not agree with an NC backed Panch over the issue of installation of a transformer. "Sarpanch wanted the transformer to be installed at a neutral venue but the NC man was adamant on its installation near his home," added Sofi. This did not go well with MLA Handwara who rang up the Police and got the Sarpanch arrested, Sofi disclosed. He informed that the transformer was installed near the NC man's house just because he was going to run a saw mill which needs electricity round the clock. "The said Sarpanch has been booked under Section 307 and is now doing rounds of police station to get the issue settled," said Sofi.
