| Devastating inferno leaves Pahalgam Village gutted, residents infuriated at late arrival of fire tenders | | | early times report Anantnag, Nov 25: Forty-six houses, property worth lakhs of rupees gutted in massive, five hour long devastating fire that broke out in Frislan Pahalgam, a wooden village in south Kashmir's Anantnag district, where people are anguish over the delay done by the fire tenders in dousing the devastating fire. Contradicting the reports of officials in which they claimed that fire broke out at around 2.30 am , locals said that fire broke out at around 12.30 PM in the house of Ameh Sheikh S/o Sonaullah Sheikh that engulfed the whole village and continued till the wee hours of the Sunday morning. "Fire broke out in the house of Ameh Sheikh that is residing on the one end of the village at 12.30 PM and soon after the incident I ringed Fire and Emergency service Pahalgam but they delayed in arriving from Pahalgam, said Ab Khaliq Sheikh, Sarpanch of the Village adding that later we informed SHO at around 1.00am and unfortunately first fire tender reached after one hour on spot. He said, "around 46 houses, 3 shops, cowshed, most of them being made of wood gutted in the fire." Adding around 100 sheep's, 15 animals and 4 horses died due to the fire. In the fire, no loss of life was reported, however, one 40 years old man got injured during the day hours when a half burned electric pole fell on him who was shifted to Pahalgam hospital and later identified as Ameh Sheikh S/o Ramzan Sheikh, locals informed. Preliminary report suggested that the fire started from a house where a villager had stored charcoal for winter that engulfed the whole village located on one side of Kashmir's famous Betab Valley. DC Anantnag along with district officials and officers from Security forces including Army also rushed towards the spot in the early morning and monitored the rehabilitation process done by the Army, Police, JKTDC and other departments.
