| JU to host Inter- University Korfball in Feb | | | early times report JAMMU, Dec 25: University of Jammu has been allotted the All India Inter-University Korfball Tournament by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) for end of February. In fact, JU had opted for three different disciplines, but the AIU allotted the Korfball-a mix game of boys and girls. Important to mention here that JU has already won a bronze medal in this newly introduced game last year. With regard to preparations, the Vice Chancellor, Prof MPS Ishar has already constituted management and advisory committees to look into the sources and resources to host the mega event. It has been reliably learnt that 30 teams, with around 600 participants, from all over the country are expected to take part in this competition which is scheduled to be held from February 20 to February 25 on the JU campus. Interestingly, the JU has yet to make the game of Korfball part of its annual inter-college activities. Hopefully, the hosting of the competition would help the university to showcase the game for its inclusion in the annual calendar of activities for the affiliated colleges. Meanwhile, for technical know-how, the Department of Sports and Physical Education of JU recently held a meeting with the office bearers of J&K Korfball Association. The Association, in turn, assured all possible help for the successful conduct of the event. |
