JU non-gazetted employees' strike enters 10th day

Jammu, Feb 13 : The deadlock between Jammu University authorities and Non-gazzeted employees continued for the tenth day today.
Rejecting the 'appeal' from the Vice Chancellor , Prof MPS Ishar ,the employees continued their strike. The employees are at strike against the Varsity administration for not considering their demands. About 220 to 230 Non Gazzeted employees, shunning all works of varsity for a period of three to five hours are protesting within University premises for the last nine days, said, Jammu University Non Gazetted Employees Union president Krishan Chand. Talking about the issue that forced the employees to go on strike, Krishan Chand, said that "In 73rd council meet of Jammu University, held on 18/10/2012, headed by Chancellor JU, N N Vohra, VC Kashmir and VC Jammu University, it was declared that the demands of contractual/ casual labours are under active consideration of the authorities. Moreover the issue was discussed by the VC with the University FAO and Chancellor and it was assured by the VC after getting recommendations from the FAO that the demands of the contractual/ casual labours would be redressed soon, but nothing has been done till date."
The Vice Chancellor said employees to wait for next Council as the File of Casual Labourers is in the process and they want to stop this mass movement of employees as Vice Chancellor says that he is looking this matter personally. Krishan Chand (President NGEU) says that they are not satisfied with the remarks of Vice Chancellor as employees want quick action with their demands because the Authority is giving us these assurances from last 1 year. After the address by the Authority whole employees of both the Unions starts it routine slogans in favour of their demands and have a round of the University.
Vijay Sharma (Gen. Secy. NGEU) also request to the Higher Authority once again that the agitation is going smoothly and we are not disturbing any type of work of University. The Authority is struggling only for stop the agitation. If it requests the Higher Authority, the issue can be resolved within a week.
