| Prof Sudhir K. Jain takes over as VC SMVDU | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Feb 15 : Prof. Sudhir K. Jain, the new Vice Chancellor of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, today met N. N. Vohra, Governor of J&K, who is also the Chancellor of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University. The Governor discussed with Prof. Jain various matters relating to the University which call for early resolution, to ensure that this institution gains national and international recognition. Prof. Jain informed the Chancellor of his commitment to make use of all available resources to take the University speedily forward to achieve its goals. Navin K. Choudhary, Principal Secretary to Governor, who has been officiating as Vice Chancellor of SMVDU since the departure of the former VC, Prof. R. N. K. Bamezai about three weeks ago, also participated in the discussions.
Earlier in the day, the Officiating Vice Chancellor, Navin K. Choudhary, handed over the charge of VC to Prof. Sudhir K. Jain at Raj Bhavan. He also briefed the incoming VC about various issues related to University functioning and assured him full support on the part of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board in augmenting infrastructure and other facilities in the University. Ms. Roop Avtar Kaur, Registrar of the University, was present on the occasion.
Prof. Jain, born at Dholpur in 1951, did his Ph. D (Applied Economics/Econometrics) from IIT, Kanpur in 1979.
He has held several administrative positions during his career which include Chairman, IPR Cell, IIT Delhi, (from 2003 onwards); Chairman, Economics & Entrepreneurship Group, DMS, IIT; and Coordinator, Inter-Disciplinary Entrepreneurship Programme, IIT, Delhi. He has also served as Executive Director of the National Institute for Entrepreneurship & Small Business Development, Noida, under the Ministry of MSME.
The research areas of Prof. Jain have been Applied/Managerial Economics, Entrepreneurship Management and Intellectual Property Rights. His 120 research papers have been published in the reputed international and national journals as well as presented at various conferences. He has co-authored a book with Prof. H. C. Petersen and Prof. W. C. Lewis, titled "Managerial Economics", which was published by Pearson Education in 2006 and co-edited another book titled "Productivity & Quality: Multi-disciplinary Perspective" with Prof. Anuradha Sharma, Prof. V. Upadhyay & Dr. Seema Sharma which was published by Tata McGraw Hill in 2005.
Prof. Jain has supervised 19 Ph. D. programmes; 150 dissertations for M. Tech/MBA, completed 20 research/consultancy projects and organized 40 training programmes and 10 conferences. He is a recipient of many awards and honours. |
