Sham urges panchayats to create awareness about social issues, conservation of natural resources

AKHNOOR, Feb 15 : Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Sham Lal Sharma, has called upon the Panchayat representatives to discharge their duties with utmost zeal and dedication for betterment of their own people.
"Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) play a big role in strengthening and accelerating the development process at grass root level with focus on ensuring effective implementation of government schemes, said the Minister.
The Minister was addressing the Panchayat representatives and officers of different departments at an interactive session organized by the Rural Development here on Friday. The Minister stressed the need for developing trust and coordination among PRIs and administration for speedy development and better delivery of government schemes on ground. He directed the officers to take into confidence the PRIs while formulating new schemes/projects and other development programmes so that the objective of the PRIs is achieved. He said PRIs are the basic democratic institutions which can really transform the development scenario as they are connected with the local people and well acquainted with the ground situation, therefore, their larger participation in the development process is highly required.
The Minister said that Government is committed to further empower the PRIs as also to expand the ambit of their functioning. The Government has already assigned them the important supervisory role for some important government departments for improving the efficiency in the government functioning enabling the people to get services in a time bound manner.
Later, the Minister participated in an annual day function of Chander Bhaga High School, Akhnoor.
The children of the school presented a colorful cultural bonanza.
Sham distributed prizes among the students who excelled in different activities.
