| 64 fake gun licenses detected, 3 held | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 16: Nowabad police claimed to have unearthed fake gun license scam with the arrest of three persons in this connection, police sources said. A case stands registered under Sections 420, 467, 471 and 120 B against the accused. According to police sources the trio was arrested in different raids conducted by police in two different gun shops at Railway station and Gadigarh. They have been identified as Mukesh Kumar, Rahul and Arun and were booked in a case registered u/s 420, 467, 471 and 120 B. Police sources also revealed that police seized 1000 gun licenses from their possession but during scrutiny police detected 64 fake gun licenses so far issued by DC Kishtwar, DC Pulwama, DC Doda and DC Srinagar. Meanwhile, DIG Jammu Kathua range JP Singh when contacted said that a police team is being dispatched to concerned DC offices to confirm the authenticity of the licenses. Sources said that the fake gun license scam came to limelight when SHO Nowabad Jaipaul Sharma lifted an armyman with fake gun license. On their disclosures police conducted raids in different areas and arrested the accused. Further investigation was in progress till late hours. It needs to mention here that police on March 21, 2011 also had busted a racket of fake gun licenses and asked authorities to cancel as many as 209 such permits. |
