| Soz's salvo on PCC working: 'middlemen' should not meddle | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 16: In what can be seen as J&K Pradesh Congress Committee president's assertion on having complete authority and say in the matters of state unit of Congress, he made a loud call at New Delhi today to High Command to allow the state chief's to work without interference and meddling of 'middlemen' nor should they poke (middlemen) by way of making recommendations on vital matters which affects the working of the unit. Sources said on the second day of PCC presidents' meeting with AICC, vice president Rahul Gandhi, Prof Soz while expressing his viewpoint on functioning of PCCs said there is a culture at certain units of leaders not associated with functioning at State level try to interfere and even make recommendations and suggestions even as these are unsolicited. This causes much harm to the party unity and overall functioning of the unit and does not allow the chiefs to work with complete autonomy, Soz is said to have expressed, albeit without referring to any name of State unit directly. He is believed to have said Party presidents should be allowed to work freely and it must repose complete faith on all respects on the presidents appointed after due consideration to the merit of efficiency, capability and integrity. Sources said he also vehemently vouched for what he said that PCC chiefs must be allowed to exercise complete authority on matters and should also be made accountable and answerable for his actions and decisions. Prof Soz's uttering seen to be loaded with political ramifications in J&K in the backdrop of unit divided in two vertical factions, assumes significance at a time when the party is faced with sharp criticism on many issues and matters on which the two factions often cross swords. This also assumes significance in terms of timing as party will be gearing up fast for elections, General polls as well as Assembly elections in J&K next year. Sources said Prof Soz again made a strong point that has relevance to the state of affairs in J&K unit that high command should identify those who are harming and damaging the party interests and sack them for this immediately once that conduct comes to notice. He strongly urged the high command that it should invest time in making appointment of PCC chiefs properly and select only those who are capable of delivering on all fronts and have complete sense of responsibility for the post. |
