| Sher-e-Punjab stuns J&K Police to reach semis | | 3rd Rajiv Gandhi Gold Cup Football Tournament | | et plus report
JAMMU, Mar7: The tough side of Sher-e-Punjab not only held strong opponent in J&K Police to a 3-3 draw in the stipulated time but clinched the thriller 6-5 in tie-breaker thus reached the semifinals stages of the ongoing 3rd Rajiv Gandhi Gold Cup Football Tournament at GGM Science College ground, here today. Leading by three goals in the first half, the Punjab side suddenly found J&K Police fight back in the second half of the play, to be precise, in the last 30 minutes. But the struggling policemen could not turn the game in their favour amidst tough resistance from the visitors. On the other hand, Police penalty kick experts, Yasin Ahmed and skipper, Ajay Kumar netted the ball while Sandeep Sharma and Fayaz Ahmed could not beat guard at the net, Sukhdev Singh. Meanwhile, the other scheduled quarterfinal could not be held after the professional side of J&K Bank failed to report. It resulted into organizers awarded Power Development Corporation (PDC)-B walkover. In another match of pre-quarterfinals stages, NGR Club blanked Young Heros 5-0. PD Singh scored the fifth goal in 64th minute. True spirit of sports A big crowd of football lovers from different age groups today showed a true spirit of sports when they supported the little known outside team of Sher-e-Punjab in their endeavor to win over the strong J&K Police today. These football lovers celebrated the victory of outsiders over the local lads because of their fair play. Today's matches were officiated by the penal of officials including Shafi Ahmed, Hilal Ahmed, Sohan Lal, Gagan Kumar, Rohit Kumar Gupta and Moon Stephen.
