PDP member Ashraf Mir today raised the query regarding appointments in Gardens and Floriculture Department in the House today. Expressing dissatisfaction over the reply of Minister of State for Floriculture, Nazir Ahmad Gurezi, Mir said, “If they are working for last three years, they will demand for making them permanent”. PDP member Murtaza Khan sought details on number of workers who were recruited in these departments. Gurezi informed the House that no contractual/ Adhoc engagements have been made in the department during the past three years, adding the department has engaged 311 casual/seasonal labourers in Kashmir division and 303 in Jammu Division on need basis from time to time for upkeep and maintenance of gardens from 2009. On the reply of the Minister, Mir pointed out, “One wonders how many of these labourers were engaged from back door”. In order to pacify the agitating members , the Ministers Nazir Ahmad Gurezi and Manohar Lal Sharma pointed out that these labourers were engaged during your (PDP-Congress coalition) Government.
