| World Arbor Day observed at College of Education, GHSS Kothi Bagh, Women's College | | | SRINAGAR: As many as 13 lakh plants have been raised in different nurseries of the State during current financial year, besides special focus has been laid on planting Deodar and other suitable avenue trees in the educational institutions, along roads and all possible land plantable area to achieve the objectives of State Forest Policy. On the occasion of 38th World Arbor Day all over the State, saplings were planted to observe the said Day. National Social Service Wings of Government College of Education, Srinagar and Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Kothi Bagh, Srinagar organized the World Arbor Day function to make the students aware about the preservation of green gold in the State for future generation. The students of these educational institutions enthusiastically participated in the plantation drive. The Principal, Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Kothi Bagh, Srinagar, Mtr. Gulshan Sangeen while speaking on the occasion emphasized the importance of plants in sustaining life and their aesthetic value. NSS Programme Officer, Dr. Asiya Magray also highlighted the significance of plants and their role in maintaining the ecological balance and in preservation of flora and fauna. The Principal of Government College of Education, Dr. Parveen Pandit urged for creating eco-friendly attitude among the students and teachers of environment at preservation all across State. Meanwhile, a daylong plantation drive was also organized by the NSS Wing of the College. The plantation drive was inaugurated by the Principal of the College, Prof. Rifat Gilani by planting saplings of various species. |
