Mir, Vikar, Gurezi inaugurate Kissan Mela at Ramsoo

RAMBAN: Minister for Agriculture, Ghulam Hassan Mir, accompanied by Minister of State for Technical Education, Power, CAPD, Vikar Rasool and Minister of State for Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Nazir Ahmed Gurezi inaugurated Agriculture Machinery mela-cum-awareness camp at Ramsoo today.
Speaking on the occasion, Mir said that agriculture activities play an important role in the up-liftment of farming community and it is the mainstay of State’s economy. There is dire need to optimally exploit the tremendous potential in agriculture and allied sectors in the State. He stressed upon mechanization and diversification in farming to make farming a profitable business. He said that the Diesel Ploughs have been introduced for the first time in Hilly District of Ramban which is showing very good performance and many more farmers have given requirement for the same making the land cultivation in hilly terrain less laborious. He further informed that 150 Bee-colonies were established and 35 Vermicompost units were constructed at the farmers fields in Ramban District by the Department of Agriculture during the current year. He added that 6 sprinkler irrigation sets, 28 Irrigation Pump sets were provided to the farmers on subsidized rates and 2 water harvesting structures were constructed during the current year in order to create irrigation facilities in this rainfed District. While addressing the gathering, Vikar said that adequate promotion needs to be given to different schemes launched in rural development, agriculture and employment sectors so that those living in rural areas could get benefit of the same. He called for a change in the mindset of the unemployed youth towards entrepreneurship and asked them to become job providers instead of job seekers. He said that such exhibitions besides encouraging the youth for setting up their income generating units help in developing cordial relationship between the department and the local people.
Nazir Gurezi, in his address, said that the Department is trying its best to reach out to all the farmers to assist them in increasing their production. He said that the farmers should boost the agriculture production supplemented by dairying activity for income generation. He further informed that the farmers should adopt organic farming in their fields to get maximum returns.
DDC, Ramban, Sham Vinod Meena and Director Agriculture Jammu, Ajay Khajuria also spoke on the occasion. All the district officers of Agriculture, Horticulture and allied sectors installed their stalls in the mela displaying the latest technologies, agriculture implements, farm machinery and technical knowhow, available with various agriculture related departments.
Sarpanches, Panches and large number of farmers were present on the occasion.
