Mir for revival of saffron to boost agriculture sector
Rs. 16.92 cr distributed among farmers for rejuvenation of saffron Gurezi emphasizes for maintaining quality of saffron, availing benefits of schemes launched for the welfare of farmers

PULWAMA, Apr 6 : To give fillip to the revival of saffron cultivation, as many as 1323 hectares of land have been covered under Rejuvenated Component of National Mission on Saffron in the State. This was stated by the Minister for Agriculture, Mr. Ghulam Hassan Mir during a Kissan Mela held at Galander Pampore here today. A large number of progressive farmers participated in the Kissan Mela organized by department of Agriculture.
Among others, MLA Pampore, Mr. Zahoor Ahmad Mir, Commissioner- Secretary, Agriculture Production department, Dr. Asgar Hassan Samoon, Chief Engineer Mechanical Irrigation, Mr. Shafat Ahmad Chesti, Director Agriculture, Kashmir, Mr. Mushtaq Ahmad Shah besides officers of district administration were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister emphasized for adopting the modern techniques for enhancing the quality saffron production and urged for infrastructure development for saffron mechanization besides transfer of technology to the field.
The Minister distributed cheques worth Rs. 16.92 crores among 2311 beneficiaries of 16 circles from Drangbal, Konibal, Wuyen, Sharshali, Khrew, Zantrang, Kadalbal, Sempora, Chandhara,, Jowbara and Parigam on the occasion.
The Minister lauded the liberal funding from central government for progress and development of the state particularly in agriculture sector.
Minister for State for Agriculture, Mr. Nazir Ahmad Khan Gurezi while speaking on the occasion stressed for maintaining the quality of Saffron to regain the popularity of the local brand. He also emphasized on the development of human resources to ensure successful implementation of National Mission on Saffron for which 14500 metric tons of fertilizers and pesticides have been distributed among the 16000 beneficiaries. He exhorted upon the progressive farmers to avail the benefits of various schemes being launched for the welfare of farmers.
It was given out on the occasion that 24 tractors, 2 bore wells, 20 power tillers, 253 Vermi compost units, 154 Polygreen houses, 3525 irrigation pump sets, 20 tube wells besides other equipments were supplied to the farmers of district Pulwama under various schemes for which Rs. 26.65 crore were utilized during the previous financial year.
