| CS Chairs State Level Monitoring Committee meeting of RMSA | | | JAMMU: The State Level Monitoring Committee headed by Chief Secretary Mohammad Iqbal Khanday Wednesday reviewed the progress of implementation of Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) in a meeting held here.
The committee discussed threadbare issues pertaining to pace of construction work of schools under upgradation and strengthening of existing infrastructure by filling missing gaps.
State Project Director RMSA Mr Hilal Ahmad gave a power point presentation describing various interventions made under the flagship education programme aimed for making good quality education available, accessible and affordable to all young persons in the age group of 14-18 years in the State. He said that for proper implementation of the programme at various levels, a four tier monitoring mechanism at state, divisional, district and school level has been put in place.
He said that since inception under RMSA, 526 Middle schools have been upgraded to the level of high schools and in as many as 306 high and higher secondary schools the existing infrastructure has been strengthened by providing additional classes, science lab, lab equipment, computer rooms, arts, crafts and culture rooms, library, separate sanitation facilities and drinking water facility.
It was informed in the meeting that the construction work for up gradation and strengthening has been assigned to R&B department.
Mr Khanday directed the executing agency to speeding up the construction work, remove existing bottlenecks and called for greater inspection. He called for better coordination and enhanced cooperation by all concerned departments adding that R&B department should give focused attention and complete all school building under RMSA at an earliest. The Chief Secretary called for exploring the proposal of reducing the scope of construction work or redeploying savings made elsewhere to complete school buildings in areas where the construction costs exceed the approved ceiling limit fixed by Union Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD) for construction of schools.
Several other issues pertaining to Girls Hostel, quality improvement at secondary level, etc also came up for discussion during the meeting.
The meeting was attended by Secretary School Education, Hirdesh Kumar, Chief Engineers R&B Kashmir and Jammu, Managing Director JKPCC, HoD Education Department, Jammu University and other officers. |
