Sham inaugurates modern equipment at LIS, Ranjan

JAMMU: In order to fine tune the efficacy of Lift Irrigation Scheme (LIS) Ranjan, Jammu, the old and outlived equipment has been replaced by new and modern machinery. The effort has been made to give fillip to the irrigational facilities in the area as per the designed capacity of the scheme.
Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control, Mr. Sham Lal Sharma inaugurated the installation of three new and modern pumping units at the existing LIS, Ranjan near here.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that it is endeavour of the Government to improve the irrigational facilities for the farmers to give boost to the agricultural production in the State. The augmentation in the LIS Ranjan is a step forward in this direction. He hoped that with the replacement of new machinery some more areas will be covered with the irrigational facilities.
Directing the engineers to take all preventive measures to ensure that at-least six pumps are made operational round the clock, the Minister asked for making a provision for simultaneous de-silting of the source spot and pumps to achieve the objective of the scheme. He directed the senior officers to regularly monitor the performance of the scheme to ensure its efficiency.
Regarding the paucity of drinking water in the kandi areas, the Minister said that the Government has devised a well-tailored strategy to deal with the situation, provided the power supply remains satisfactory. As a part of introducing latest technology in the irrigation sector, the Government contemplating to dig deep drilling tube-wells in the dry belt to meet the drinking water needs of people. He urged the Sarpanchs to supervise the functioning of various water supply schemes falling under their jurisdictions to ensure regulation of water supply. He asked them to check the attendance of the employees posted in the water stations to ensure the work culture at the grass root level which is mandate of the PRIs.
He issued instructions to the officers to ensure verification of attendance sheets of all employees who are manning various water supply schemes from the Sarpanches to maintain the accountability of each employee as also to improve the efficiency of service delivery on ground. Any deviation to the instructions will be viewed seriously, said the Minister. Referring to the issue of regularization of Daily Rated Employees working in PHE/Irrigation, the Minister said that Government will not harm their interests and their all genuine and outstanding demands will be addressed in a phased manner. He said the regularization of DWs is a policy issue and Government will settle this issue with human approach. He asked the Daily Wagers/Contractuals to work with utmost zeal and dedication and ensure best delivery of essential services.
Sarpanchs/Panchs and prominent citizens of the areas expressed gratitude to the Minister for paying due attention and upgrading the Lift Irrigation Scheme. They also presented other demands before the Minister, which mainly pertained to improvement in extending drinking water, electricity, flood protection and irrigational facilities.
Later, the Minister also paid surprise visit to Sub-District Hospital, Akhnoor and took stock of the facilities there. He also interacted with the doctors and para-medics and enquired about their problems. He asked them to work with extra zeal and dedication and provide best services to the patients.
Chief Engineer, Irrigation & Flood Control, Mr. K.K. Gupta, SE (Hydraulic), Jammu, Mr. Sushil Kumar Aima and other officers of the Irrigation & Flood Control were present on the occasion.
