| Ply more fleet of 93 buses on districts routes of J&K: Ramzan directs SRTC | | | JAMMU: For having confidence in safe driving habits among the drivers of J&K SRTC by commuters of State, Minister for CA&PD and Transport, Ch. Mohammad Ramzan today directed the Corporation to ply fleet of 93 buses more on district routes of the J&K immediately to provide best transport service and safe journey to the commuters. The decision to this effect was taken at a high level meeting here this afternoon, convened to review the working of JKSRTC. The Minister said that the decision has been taken due to the tremendous demand of the people for plying SRTC bus fleet on major routes of the State with the objective for ensuring safer journey. He said that the people of the State have a greater confidence on the pilots of SRTC rather than the pilots of private operators. Mr Ramzan directed RTO, Kashmir and Jammu to provide a proper time slot and proper space in bus terminals at the earliest to the corporation bus fleet so that they can immediately ply their fleet on their respective routes. He further directed to identify the routes with the consultation of local public representatives. The Minister said out of 93 buses, 50 buses would ply on the district routes of Kashmir valley, 25 buses on district routes of Jammu other than erstwhile Doda district. He said the remaining 18 buses would ply on accident prone routes of erstwhile Doda district adding that these buses were in addition to 53 buses which were already plying on the routes of erstwhile Doda district as per the directions of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. Mr. Ramzan directed MD, SRTC that the routes for additional 18 buses would be identified with the consultation of all the MLAs of the erstwhile Doda district so that priority will be given to most accident prone areas of the district. The Minister stressed upon the management to infuse professionalism in the working of the corporation in all business units as it is essential for enhancing the growth of the corporation. He said that the private players in transport are providing more comfort and State of art buses for the commuters and in this regard the corporation has also to compete with private players to provide better transport facilities as per the market demand of State particularly in Jammu and Srinagar cities.With regard to minimum detention of buses in SRTC workshops, the Minister directed the corporation to upgrade their workshops by involving latest workshop technologies for speedy repairs of the vehicles. He said the working of the workshops should be monitored on day to day basis and stressed that 10 percent detention of buses should be maximum limit in these workshops.. In order to bring efficacy in the system and for ensuring accountability and transparency in the corporation, the Minister released documents namely Recruitment Regulations, employee discipline and conduct regulations 2012, Manual of Operations and Service Condition Rules and Regulations of J&K SRTC. During the meeting, the Minister was informed that by virtue of efforts and cooperation of employees of the J&KSRTC, the performance of Corporation has improved during last three years. He was further informed that revenue earnings of the corporation touched Rs.90 crore last year from Rs.36 crore in 2009-10. He was further informed that the operation of the Cargo Services was noted with appreciation for transportation of food grains to every nook and corner of the State besides, successful time bound dumping of essential materials in Ladakh region. Secretary Transport, Mr. M. A. Kakroo, Managing Director, JKSRTC, Mr. J. S. Tandon, FA and CAO, JKSRTC, Mr. D. P. Sharma and General Managers were present in the meeting. |
