Eleven Killed in Hotel Fire in Central China
4/15/2013 9:59:00 PM
China: At least eleven people were killed and fifty others injured in a hotel fire in central China's Hubei Province on Sunday. The injured have been sent to local hospitals, while some are in serious condition.
"The fire broke out at 6.38 am, local time, in a hotel in the Fancheng District of the city of Xiangyang," Xinhua news agency said.
The fire was extinguished at 8.50 am, local time, according to local firefighters.
Two Xiangyang firefighters said the fire started in an Internet cafe on the floor below the hotel in a five-story building. They refused to be identified, as is common with Chinese officials.
Xinhua said some of the hotel guests managed to escape while others were rescued by firefighters. "The cause of the fire is under investigation," the agency quoted the local police as saying.
