Governor chairs first meeting of first Court of Jammu Central University
Calls for University developing as a centre of excellence producing wise and balanced personalities

JAMMU, Apr 15: Mr. N. N. Vohra, Governor, has emphasized the crucial importance of establishing Central University of Jammu as a centre of excellence in teaching and research alongside focusing on ethical and moral values, in consonance with our glorious pluralistic ethos, to produce mature and a balanced personalities who would meet arising challenges and contributing to nation building.
The Governor, who is Chancellor of the Central University of Jammu, was chairing the first meeting of the first Court of the University, here today.
Referring to the establishment of this upcoming University, the Governor observed that the Members of the Court are a very distinguished group of people drawn from varied arenas of expertise who will provide guidance regarding the approaches to be followed in establishing this varsity on a sound footing to be able to impart quality education of world standards. He added that he had already seen the architectural designs of the Campus and been briefed about logistics to be established and other facilities to be created for this University. He observed that we have to fully utilize the benefits of the large resources which will become available for the setting up of this University.
The Governor suggested that the University Court could meet at least twice a year till the University gets fully established so that we could benefit from the wisdom, knowledge and expertise of the Members of the Court in shaping its infrastructure, logistics, courses to be introduced and other essential features.
The Governor thanked the Members of the University Court for their highly valuable suggestions which were put forth by them during the meeting and urged Dr. S. S. Bloeria, Vice Chancellor of the Central University of Jammu, to materialize these thoughts, to the maximum extent possible. The suggestions made by the Members related to the selection of courses, approaches to be evolved for teaching and research, provision of water and power supply to meet requirements of the University on a sustained basis, road connectivity and other logistics.
The Governor emphasized, interalia, that while establishing the various buildings and structures of the Campus all the required measures should be taken for harnessing solar
energy and systematic conservation of water resources.
In his presentation, Dr. Bloeria dwelt on the Logo, Vision, Mission and Profile of the University and the salient features of the teaching and research facilities to be put in place at its upcoming Campus. He said that eight PG and four integrated M. Phil/Ph. D. programmes are being run in the University during the session 2012-13 and the University proposes to start four more integrated M. Phil/Ph. D. programmes during the session 2013-14. These include Public Policy and Public Administration, National Security Studies, Human Resource Management and Tourism and Travel Management. Referring to the Campus development, he said that it will be developed in three phases.
