| Kissan Mela held at Bandipora | | Incentives worth Rs. 2.5 Cr provided to farmers of the district | | BANDIPORA: An effective coordination between the functionaries of Agriculture department and the farmers can realize the objective of enhancing the production & productivity of various crops. This was stated by Director Agriculture Kashmir, Mr. Mushtaq Peerzada while inaugurating a Kissan Mela at Bandipora. He said incentives worth Rs. 2.5 crore was provided to farmers of district Bandipora during 2012-13 for strengthening Irrigation infrastructure, protected cultivation, farm mechanization and organic farming & other agriculture inputs. He said that the use of modern technology and quality Agriculture inputs could take the state towards self sufficiency. He said that there is lot of potential for mushroom, vegetable, flower cultivation & Bee keeping in Bandipora and urged the farmers and unemployed youth to take up this income generating activities for their economic upliftment. He urged the functionaries of the Agriculture department to provide required expertise and other inputs to the farmers for this purpose. He also called upon farmers to come forward to avail the benefits of various schemes launched for their welfare and upliftment. Expressing his concern over the dismal performance of the Banks in the district with regard to issuance of Kissan Credit Cards, he impressed upon the Bankers and officials of Agriculture department to gear up their agencies and complete the 100 percent targets by June 2013. As many as 30 tractors, 78 Power Tillers, 266 Irrigation Pump Sets, 10 Power Sprayers, 79 Foot Sprayers, 25 Knap Sacks, 40 Motorized Vending Carts, 60 Manually Operated Carts were purchased by the farmers of the district, besides 281 Polygreen Houses, 84 Vermicompost Units, 7 Pack Houses, 15 Tube Wells, 2 Bore Wells, 11 Apiculture Units, 5 Mushroom Units & 1 Agri-business Centre by Self Help Groups were established. Director Agriculture distributed incentive cheques worth Rs. 75 lakhs among farmers of the district for purchase of farm machinery and establishing various units. A large number of farmers including Panchs and Sarpanchs participated in the Mela and interacted with experts of agriculture and allied departments Coordinator KVK, district officers & officials of Agriculture and allied departments also attended the Mela. Later on, Director inspected District Soil Testing Laboratory of Bandipora coming up at a cost of Rs. 75 lakhs at Watapora. He also inspected units established under various Centrally Sponsored Schemes of the department. |
