Socio-economic empowerment of women govt’s priority: Jora

jammu, Apr 25: Minister for Urban Development and Urban Local Bodies, Mr Nawang Rigzin Jora, today said that the government was keen to create ample opportunities for socio-economic empowerment of women adding that for the purpose, besides focusing on their education, various skill development courses are being offered to enable them to grow and become financially independent.
The Minister, as Chief Guest, was speaking at a function organized by Jammu Urban Development Agency (JUDA) to distribute certificates and Sewing machines among the female trainee pass outs trained in nine Centres of Kalamkari Centre Society.
The Minister of State for Home and Tourism, Mr Sajad Ahmad Kitchloo was the guest of honor.
About 160 females sponsored by JUDA and trained at Kalamkari Centre Society centers in various crafts, including cutting and tailoring, beautician and hair dressing courses, besides designer jute bags, knitting and file and folder making crafts were presented certificates by the Ministers . Among these, about twenty five pass outs were also provided Sewing Machines on the occasion.
The Minister said that the government has assumed the role of a facilitator to develop the skills of youth in potential trades and various professional courses by virtue of which they could become first-class entrepreneurs. He said this way they would be able to earn a dignified living for themselves and also provide employment to others. “Now the government is not in a position to provide jobs to every individual so we must be ready to go for self-employment and earn respectful livelihood”, he added.
Mr Jora said that it was the era of Private Public partnership which has huge employment potential and ensures best possible facilities to the common people.
Referring to the success story of the Women Society in Gujarat producing ‘Ligat Papad,’ he said why these type of ventures cannot be set up in Jammu and Kashmir. He said that the women of the J&K have tremendous potential but unfortunately they did not get required encouragement to show their mental strength.
Earlier, the president of the Kalamkari Centre Society gave a brief account of the activities of the society and added that its main objective was empowerment of women by imparting education, develop their skills and educate them about health and hygiene. . He said that the society is running a community polytechnic established in 1995 through AICTE. He said the society is also implementing a health and family welfare programme funded by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.
He said that presently 840 women candidates are being imparted skill development trainings in various centers of the society among which 160 have completed the courses, while 191 would complete their trainings by May ending. He further said that the rest of the trainees would also complete the six month courses by ending September this year.
On the occasion, Managing Director WDC, Nahid Soz, Mission Director, Empowerment for Women, Hafiza Muzaffar, CEO JUDA, Shubhra Sharma, Prof. Rekha Coudhary also spoke.
