| ANANTNAG: To give extra boost to the angling programme, the department of Fisheries is carrying out multifarious activities in the district. The department is also using its men and machinery in full for the conservation of natural water resources like round the clock vigil through posted staff to check illegal activities, annual stocking of water bodies with quality fish, seed of brown trout, construction of dry boulder bundhs during winter to safe guard the live stocks from poaching etc. under these measures the department carried out the stocking of different trout streams viz. Kokernag, Brenghi, Katsoo, Lidder, Stream and Chattapal on April 25, 2013 with 40,000 quality fish seeds of brown trout seeds in presence of Panchs, Sarpanchs and locals of the area during second phase. As many as 80,000 Brown Trout has already been stocked from various streams of the district during first phase. The Assistant Director revealed that since the farmer to farmer programme under private sector was launched in 2009-10, 36 trout and 36 carp units have been established in Lidder, Breng and Verinag divisions of the district. He informed that under private sector 13 fish units were sanctioned 2012-13 and the department is trying to rope in women folk for their empowerment. |
