| Viqar Rasool reviews power scenario of Valley | | Asks for ensuring adequate power supply besides adopting viable techniques to reduce transformer damages | | SRINAGAR: The Minister of State for Technical Education, Power and Information, Mr. Vikar Rasool today urged upon the officers of Power Development Department(PDD) to render services with zeal and enthusiasm besides utilizing their skills and talent so that power scenario of the valley is improved. He urged upon them to adopt latest and effective measures to reduce transformer damages besides put in all out efforts in reducing power losses so that people do not face unscheduled and elongated power cuts. The Minister was addressing a high level meeting of officers to review the power scenario of the Kashmir Division here today. Among others, Principal Secretary PDD, Mr. Arun Kumar Mehta, Development Commissioner PDD, Mr. Manzoor Ahmad Salroo, Technical Secretary PDD, Mr. Asgar Ali Majaz, Chief Engineer M&RE, Mr. Mohammad Muzaffar Mattoo, Chief Engineer System Operations, Sheikh Ayaz Gul, Superintendent Engineers and Executive Engineers of Kashmir Division attended the meeting. He said that government is committed to provide all basic amenities including better electricity on priority and various steps have already been initiated in this regard. To curb the menace of power theft, the Minister directed the officers to change the Meter Readers and Linemen on rotational basis. He also stressed for the speedy realization of electricity charges so that target can be achieved well in time. Mr. Vikar enjoined upon officers to make frequent inspections of concerned areas and have check for unregistered connections besides fines should be imposed and accordingly recovered. He also stressed that electric bills should be checked and verified by the authorized officers so that transparent and accurate billing system is ensured. The Minister directed officers to provide safety gears to the ground level employees to ensure their safety at all levels. The Minister was apprised that during last fiscal Rs 612.67 crores were realized as revenue by the PDD in Kashmir Division which was 28% more than the previous year. He was also informed that 52,000 illegal connections have been regularized till that and process of registering rest of such connections has been speeded up. The Minister said that the officer and employees of PDD who perform their duties with dedication and competency will be appreciated while as poor performers will be taken to task. |
