| Physical teachers’ role vital in harnessing sports talent-Taj | | | JAMMU: Describing role of physical teachers as of great significance in harnessing sports talent among students, Minister for Medical Education, Youth Services and Sports, Taj Mohi-ud-din on Thursday exhorted upon them to put in their best for encouraging games among potential youth. The Minister was chairing a joint meeting of officers of Youth Services and Sports and J&K State Sports Council held to review the functioning and performance of these departments. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that construction of indoor stadium in the area with a population of around 50000 is being taken up under centrally sponsored scheme. He said that the centre government has been providing liberal funding to upgrade sports infrastructure in the state. He directed the concerned officers to ensure promotion of sports activities in schools especially in High and Higher secondary schools. He said physical teachers should be responsible for promotion of sports activities in schools. He asked for land identification in consultation with respective panchayats for construction of stadium for the students of those schools which lack this vital facility due to non-availability of land. He also directed to submit the report within next 15 days about the status of progress of various under construction stadia in Jammu division. Among others, Joint Secretary Sidharth Sharma, Deputy Director Youth Services and Sports and senior officers of the departments were present in the meeting. |
