| Remote, border belts getting focused attention of govt: Tara Chand | | Scores attend Pargwal monthly meeting | |

JAMMU, May 21: Underlining commitment the government to develop remote areas of the state, Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Tara Chand today said that addressing development needs of those living in border and rural belts is endeavor of the government and work on the road map of development has already been started. He said exemplary development initiatives have been taken to equip these areas with all required basic infrastructure.
“With liberal support from the central government development revolution has been launched in all three regions of the state and rural areas are getting focused attention”, he added.
Mr. Tara Chand was addressing a largely attended monthly public meeting at Pargwal.
Besides local Sarpanchs, Panchs the meeting was attended by SDM, senior engineers and other officers of line departments. The meeting has become regular affair in which officers, panchayati raj functionaries and people come one to one to discuss issues of the area and ensure speedy redressal of the same.
Underlining multi-faceted role of panchayati raj functionaries in monitoring, the Deputy Chief Minister said with transfer of functions of fourteen departments to the PRIs their direct involvement in the development has increased many folds and empowerment of grass root democratic institutes would go a long way in over all development. PRI have to play a major role in making people aware of various schemes and programs launched by the government from time to time, he added.
“Recently series of awareness cum registration camps for Kissan Credit Cards, Labor welfare schemes and other welfare schemes have been organised, now it is duty of the Sarpanchs and Panchs to ensure that more and more people get themselves registered for availing benefits of these initiatives,” he enjoined.
He said welfare of down trodden sections of the society is high on the agenda of the government and special initiatives like inter district recruitment and legal provision for reservation would ensure that interests of such sections are watched.
Calling upon youth to derive maximum benefit from employment schemes Mr. Tara Chand described Sher-e-Kashmir Employment Welfare Program for Youth (SKEWPY) as flagship program and a big leap forward to resolve the burgeoning problem of unemployment. He said the policy has provision for giving financial help to unemployed besides encouraging them to start their own ventures.
He called upon the youth for inculcating spirit of entrepreneurship and looking beyond the option of government jobs, adding that various schemes launched by the government enable youth to start new ventures.
Responding to demands put forth by the people, the Deputy Chief Minister directed the PDD authorities to ensure timely replacement of damaged transformers, regular power supply and installation of poles. He said the issue of creating a reserve bank of transformers to cater summer demand has been discussed with the Chief Minister and the matter would be looked into on priority.
He said numbers of initiatives have been taken to address the power sector demands of the area which includes two grid stations, additional transformers and ensuring poles to cover uncovered areas.
“In my recent meeting with Union Home Minister detailed deliberations have been done on issues of border people and soon a joint visit of defense and home ministers would be held to make sure that long pending demands of the people are met,” he added.
He said in the health sector, three new fully equipped mobile dispensaries have started working in the area and hospital work would also be prioritized. Authorities would also be approached to make arrangements for fire station vehicles in the area till permanent fire station comes up, he added.
He said telecom authorities would be asked to explore options for ensuring enhanced connectivity in the area.
Enlisting achievements made in education sector, Mr. Tara Chand said that in a short span of three months over ten thousand promotions have been made, more than five thousand lecturers have been regularized and around thirteen thousand vacancies have been referred to concerned recruitment agencies, adding that instructions have been given to SSB and PSC for ensuring fast track recruitment for the said posts. He said en-masse promotions at all levels in the department has been done both for teaching as well as non teaching staff.
He said the concept of RETs has not only increased reach of the school education but has ensured that local educated youth get job, adding that under SSA and RMSA the schools are getting much needed infrastructure.
He said initiatives like framing education policy and transfer policy would further the cause of education in the state. |
