| Diesel Plough helps plough 3-4 kanal in 1 hour | | | RAMBAN: As a part of efforts to introduce advanced machinery in the hill agriculture, the agriculture department, Ramban, organised a demonstration of Diesel Plough at Ramban to educate the farmers about the use and benefits of this vital tool in the hilly terrain. A number of farmers from several villages of the district participated in the practical demonstration of diesel plough. Chief Agriculture Officer, Ramban, Vijay Bhushan, informed the gathering that the diesel ploughs have been introduced for the first time in hilly district of Ramban which are showing good results due to its small size, light weight and easy access to even small corners of the farmers fields. He further informed that it can plough an area of 3 - 4 kanals in one hour consuming only one litre of diesel costing Rs 55 only whereas same area can be ploughed by a farmer with the help of bullocks in one day with a labour cost of Rs 250-300. It was also informed that the soil ploughed by Diesel Plough is more pulverised as compared to the soil ploughed by bullock driven ploughs and two ploughings are sufficient for sowing in comparison to the soil being ploughed three times by traditional ploughs. He said that the department is according more thrust on improving the economic condition of marginal farmers by providing subsidy on the purchase of such machinery who have small land holdings especially those living in hilly areas. He further added that 6 sprinkler irrigation sets, 28 irrigation pump sets have been provided to the farmers on subsidized rate besides constructing 2 water harvesting structures during the current year in order to create irrigation facilities in this rainfed district. The farmers lauded the role of the department for reaching out to the people of this far off and hilly district by introducing the latest interventions in this backward area. Besides, an Agri Business Centre at Ramban has been set up through back ended subsidy of Rs 5 lakh provided by the department to provide the facility of Diesel Plough on Custom Hiring Basis. District Agriculture Officer Ramban H D Sharma, AEOs, JAEOs and field staff of the department besides sarpanches and panches were also present. |
