Dr Kamaal continues tour of quake hit Chenab Valley
5/21/2013 10:23:44 PM

Kishtwar: Continuing his tour of the earthquake hit Chenab Valley Additional General Secretary National Conference (NC) Dr Sheikh Mustafa Kamaal Tuesday convened a meeting of party block presidents of Kishtwar district and the civil society here.
15 prominent people put forth their views. They were unanimous in appreciating the visits of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Union Minister Gulam Nabi Azad and their genuine concern and anguish for the earthquake loss. They also expressed their gratitude to both for one thousand tents each from Indian Red Cross and J&K Bank, Rs 25 crore from Chief Minister Relief fund and free rations from J&K Government.
They were unanimous in their view that cash relief should be given uniformly to all three categories of fully damaged, partially damaged and unfit for habitation dwellings as per the scale fixed for each of the three category as individual evaluation will be time consuming and confusing and pregnant with apprehension of Public resentment .
Also ration be given to all and not only to the sufferers for six months instead of three months. And, discrimination and partisan relief distribution should be checked with an iron hand by the government.
They also expressed that tarpaulin sheets like the ones used by the security forces which have holes fitted with brass rings along the edges be also provided as an option for tents as many in the higher reaches do not have enough land for setting up tents and that topography is also a hurdle and that tarpaulin is easy to carry and easy to spread as a cover.
Dr Kamaal in his address reiterated the commitment of the NC to ensure just and speedy relief to all who have suffered and asked them to remember God and ask for his mercy and forgiveness.
Tanvir Ahmad Kichloo introduced the office bearers and gave a brief account of the National Conference Party in Kishtwar District. He highlighted the problems of Dachan , Madwa and Wadwan areas including lack of staff in Government Degree College at Wadwan and the Higher Secondary Schools of the area and completion of important Wadwan bridge.
Later Dr Kamaal accompanied by Tanvir Kichloo visited village Ratna in Palmad area to condole the family of Sheikh Gulam Ali Block President who died the previous day after a brief illness.
