| Marh block fully covered under Soil Health Card Scheme: Mir | | Distributes SHCs, KCCs among farmers | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 5: Block Marh has attained the distinction of being the first block in Jammu and Kashmir to have hundred percent coverage of farmers under Soil Health Card Scheme. This information was given by Minister for Agriculture; Ghulam Hassan Mir after inaugurating one day awareness programme on ‘Soil Health’ and distribution of Soil Health Cards, organized by the Department of Agriculture, Jammu at village Sangrampur of Marh Block here today. MLA, Marh, Chowdhary Sukhnandan, Director Agriculture Jammu, Mr. Ajay Khajuria, Joint Director Agriculture Extension, Dr. S.S. Jamwal, Joint Director Agriculture Inputs, Mr. S.K. Sahni, Chief Agriculture Officer Jammu, Mr. Jatinder Sharma, District Agriculture Officers, panchs and sarpanchs besides large number of farmers present on the occasion. On the occasion, the Minister also distributed Kissan Credit Cards (KCC) among the farmers of the area. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that agriculture sector is the back bone of the nation and it has vast potential of generating employment opportunities. The Minister informed that village-wise soil analysis of the whole block has been conducted by the department and about 11569 farmers are being provided Soil Health Cards in Marh block thus completing 100 percent coverage under this scheme. He said that soil testing of the block will help in knowing the initial nutrient status of the soil which will help the agriculture experts to recommend optimum doses of fertilizers for different crops to be used which will economically help farming community adding that it will also help in identifying soil related diseases and enhancement of specific crops for better returns to the farmers. Mir said that agriculture sector is being given focused attention and the centre government has introduced machinery mission under which 90 percent subsidy would be provided to the farmers for the purchase of mechanical cultivation equipments. He said that distribution of Soil Health Cards is an innovative step to take forward and make agriculture sector more lucrative. He underlined the need to adopt scientific techniques of cultivation to make agriculture a profitable activity and an attraction for the young generation. Listing the measures taken by the government for the benefit of the farmers, he said that hybrid seeds, fertilizers and high tech machinery are being provided to the people associated with the agriculture. He said that more procurement centres would be established so that farmers could get high market price at their doorsteps. MLA Marh appreciated the efforts of the department and hoped that the it will help the farming community in a big way. He raised some issues which included permanent solution of procurement system, establishment of market at Marh block and special package for development of agriculture infrastructure in Marh block. Director Agriculture also spoke on the occasion and said that the scheme of providing Soil Health Cards is also being introduced in other districts of Jammu division in a phased manner. He said that department is making all out efforts to make the farmer self-planner by keeping the soil health card updated to increase the productivity level. |
