Locals prefer evenings out Bathing in canals hit among youths

Jammu, June 9 : As mercury inches its way up in the city, residents are turning to the Ranbir canal to beat the heat by taking a dip in the icy-cold water of the Chenab. The canal is being swarmed by scores of youngsters and locals residents daily to enjoy its cool environs. The day long Power cut in the Jammu city has fueled the problems of the Jammuites in the blazing heat; People were sitting on the bank of Ranbir Canal whole day to get some relief.
A severe heat wave coupled with long power cuts has raised tempers in the Jammu region and led to resentment against Power development department of the state. Electricity cuts ranging from 10 to 15 hours have added to the woes of people in the Jammu region, which is witnessing the temperature touching 40 again in some places. City residents said the authorities are not paying heed to their hardships. They also accuse the state government for discriminating against the region. "If this government cannot give sufficient electricity to the Jammu region in this crucial period then what is the worth of electing is useless government?" said Neetu Singh, a Student.
"There are senior citizens, children, patents cannot bear blazing heat, then how can they surive without electricity? Who will be responsible, if someone dies due to these long power cuts?" she asked.
"If there is any problem in the grid then they should rectify it in a Phased manner, and should not cut the electricity for more than hours, but the electricity is cut since morning and even there was no prior information about this long power cut," said Sohan Lal, A shop keeper. "The PDD department is seems to be most irresponsible department of the state. They should at least provide extra electricity to the Jammu region in this summer season when Jammu required more electricity," he added.
