JAMMU: The Legal Metrology Department today booked eight traders found violating various provisions of J&K weights and measures (enforcement) Act 1997 and charged a fine of Rs 5800 from the violators. A team of LMD, headed by Assistant controller Rajesh Heera, conducted surprise inspection of ration depots, Grocery shops, fertilizer stores, sweet shops at Sathra, Chandak and Mandi areas. During the inspection 8 traders were booked for various violations and charged fine. The inspection team warned the traders of stern legal action in case of any further indulgence in anti-consumer practices. They were directed to use standard and verified weights and to sell packed commodity clearly mentioning MRP, Packing date, Net weight along with complete address of manufacturer/Packer.
