| Two-day strike by JCC, paralyses work at government departments | | | Early Times Report Jammu, June 22 : The second day of the two-day pen down strike of the Joint Consultative Committee (JCC) of employees of various Government Departments of the state has paralyzed the work in the government offices on Saturday. JCC has concluded two-day pen down strike against the government for not fulfilling their demands, and there was a complete shutdown in all the government offices. JCC has to announce their further course of action of Monday in a meeting of members of the JCC. Senior Leader of JCC, Ram Kumar Sharma said, "The government has been failed to fulfill its commitment and assurances given to the employees on July 2012, and then once again we gave time to the government to address our grievances, but there was no response from the government." "The employees of the all state government departments observed complete shut down today under the banner of JCC and some protest demonstration also took place. The future course of action will also be decided on Monday, we have submitted a memorandum to Divisional Commissioner on Friday, we will continue our agitation till the government do not fulfill our demands," he added. The general public also suffered due to the strike, as the all the non-gazetted staff was not on their seat during the office hours. JCC had different pretest demonstrations in the Jammu city as well as the other districts of the Jammu region, but no violation or arrest has been reported so far. The employees are demanding the Regularization of daily wagers and contractual employees of PSU's, enhancement of retirement age from 58 to 60 years and removal of grade anomalies of PSU's. The 4.5 lakhs government employees in both Jammu and Kashmir regions observed complete shutdown under the banner of Joint Consultative Committee (JCC), demanding that their demands should be addressed as soon as possible. Meanwhile in Srinagar, police today resorted to force to stop the employees trying to organise a protest march towards Raj Bhavan. More than a dozen employees were detained by police but nobody was injured, official sources said. The workers, under the aegis of Employees Joint Action Committee (EJAC), assembled at the Sher-e-Kashmir Park here and tried to march towards Raj Bhavan, they said. The protesters were stopped near Tourism Reception Centre by the police, who asked them to disperse peacefully. They, however, refused to pay heed and continued to march ahead, forcing the police to resort to lathicharge and use water cannons, the sources said. The call for march to Governor's House was given by EJAC to press for their demands. EJAC president, Qayoom Wani said the protests against government will continue till their demands are met. "Our fight will continue till our demands are met," he said. |
