Awareness camp regarding Drug de-addiction organized at Budgam | | | Budgam: A day long awareness workshop on the theme Drug de-addiction “lest we lose another generation’’ followed by youth interaction was held in Sheikh-ul-Alam Hall, Budgam. The program was organised by CAUSE, development organisation, civil society forum in collaboration with District Information Office, Budgam. As many as 400 students from Higher Secondary Schools, Boys and Girls, Govt Degree College Budgam, health workers and Anganwadi workers comprised of the audience who were made aware of various psychosocial, medical and sociological effects of substance abuse by various experts from medical fraternity, psychological and civil society. MLA Budgam, Aga Syed Ruhullah told the young audiences about various ill effects of drug abuse in the light of religion, while as SP Budgam Irshad Ahmad highlighted the role of police in curbing this evil and Abdul Khaliq Wani from VHAI delivered a lecture on the theme “Smoking as a gateway to drug addiction” Pertinently a recent survey has highlighted that in whole of north India J&K has maximum numbers of smokers (TOI Survey). District Development Commissioner, Budgam, Mr. Khursheed Ahmad Shah promised complete support in making Budgam drug addiction free as Budgam already holds the distinction of being “First smoke free district’’ in J&K . Dr Muzaffar, through a PowerPoint presentation brought home the fact that addiction among youth is increasing irrespective of sex but if civil society and other bodies like Drug Controller, Police and District Administration play proactive role, the menace could be done away with completely. |
